Doha, Qatar: Minister of Sports and Youth HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and national team player Assim Madibo visited injured Canada player Ismail Koné in Vancouver to inquire about his condition after the player sustained an injury during the World Cup game against Qatar.

Kone sustained a broken leg following a tackle from Madibo during Qatar's second World Cup group-stage match that saw them fall to host nation Canada 6-0 on Friday, June 19, 2026 (Qatar time). Kone has since undergone surgery.

The Qatar Football Association made this announcement in an early morning post on June 24, 2026 adding that the delegation was received by the President of the Canadian Football Federation.
QFA wrote in a social media post, "This visit embodies the sporting spirit and the good relations inside and outside the field, with the best wishes for the player's prompt recovery and quick return to the pitches."
